Complaint: I opened a business account with XXXX XXXX, I went to deposit some checks on XX/XX/XXXX. The teller said my account was closed, I asked why, she said I had closed it. I went home to look at my statement and the account was never closed by me and it had money in the account. I then called customer service and told them of their error, XXXX said the account was closed due to several return mail fees, she said someone would contact me within 5 days, later that day XXXX called me and said the account was closed due to return mail fees, he also stated it was my responsibility to notify the bank of an address change, he was shocked when I told him my address never changed, he said he would investigate and call back on XX/XX/XXXX after he talked to the branch. XX/XX/XXXX it was getting late so I called XXXX back asking for the explanation, he said the branch had no explanation, I asked him to reopen the account and put the money back into the account, he refused and said he could do nothing about it and it was up to the branch manager. I called the branch manager XXXX at XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX SC XXXX. XXXX stated they do NOT have any proof of returned mail but my account was charged for the returned mail fee, then charged every month after until all money in the account was depleted, they then closed the account. XXXX also stated they do this if an account is inactive hoping this will trigger the customer to question the fee, but the customer only has two weeks to dispute the fee. I believe this bank never sent a letter to begin with, the post office would stamp the letter saying return to sender with a date back to the bank and they would have proof it was sent. XXXX then refused to reopen the account and put the money back into the account. XXXX then offered me to reopen the account after I came in to sign a new contract for the account. I then understood what they were doing. This bank merged with another company and my original contact was with the former bank which had no monthly fees to service business accounts. XXXX XXXX not only fraudulently took money from my account for returned mail fees they never sent but also purposely closed the account so I would be forced to sign a new contract which included monthly fees to service business accounts. I also requested the explanation in writing from XXXX XXXX and all parties refused. I have contacted an attorney.
